Access to Immigration Related Data for Local Immigration Partnerships
With funding from Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC), the LIPs Research Support Project administered by the National LIP Secretariat facilitates access to immigration related data for Local Immigration Partnerships. The data is made available through two data sources: 1) CDP-Immigration Data Portal and 2) LIPData.ca.
LIPData.ca on nine different themes
The LIPData.ca is a data portal that provides Local Immigration Partnerships (LIPs) with immigration related data by their custom geographies. A prominent feature of LIPdata.ca is a reporting dashboard, which includes federal census data from 2006, 2016 and 2021. The nine icons on the left side of web pages correspond to the following nine themes:
- Age and Sex demographics
- Birth Country
- Citizenship & Immigration
- Education
- Employment
- Housing
- Income
- Language and
- Migration
When clicked on a theme, it opens a second layer that holds one or more indicators that can be selected to view data by the LIP custom geography displayed as graphs. The site also provides the details of LIPs by IRCC regions – BC-Yukon, PNT, Ontario, Quebec and Atlantic.

CDP-Immigration Data Portal
The CDP-Immigration Data Portal is created in partnership with the Community Data Program (CDP). This was made possible by establishing an Immigration Sector Network Consortia specifically for LIPs across Canada to become members of the CDP. Under the Immigration Sector Network Consortia, the CDP has created an Immigration Data Portal (IDP) as part of the CDP website. The CDP-Immigration Data Portal provides access to immigration related data resources for LIPs including key immigration data at the level of each LIP custom geography – meaning their specific service area or geographic data boundary. The step-by-step guides below detail how LIPs can become a CDP member, create a user account and access data through Immigration Data Portal.

Index of Indicators for the Local Immigration Partnerships (LIPs)
The index of indicators tool is developed by the National LIP Research Working Group. This tool was developed by reviewing and analyzing tools and resources available in the community as well as shared by LIPs across Canada. This tool will be enhanced on an annual basis. The Working Group encourages LIPs to review the index of indicators and share your comments about this tool to keep it up to date.
